For years you couldn't miss them-pictures of sad, sad-eyed children

Art critics weren't impressed, but Americans rushed to  buy the work.

But there was an inside story. An ugly divorce, court painting

an artist whose husband worked almost anonymously in the basement

Keane, identified as the creator of her rounded painting

painting and selling her work at her home in Napa until Sunday

the Keen Eyes Gallery in San Francisco. .. She was 94 years old.

Keane's first rounded photo was taken in the late 1950s on San Francisco's North Beach
