‘Avatar,’ Spider-Man and Star Wars return to the big screen as summer box office winds down

Disney and Sony will re-release Rogue One, Spider-Man: No Way Home, and Avatar to home theaters in the coming weeks. Because there is 30% less product in theaters.

Disney and Sony not only have space in their calendars to bring these films to theaters, but their appearances are part of a broader way to promote the upcoming project. With Star Wars prequels Rogue One and Avatar coming to home theaters in due course, Sony plans to release a powered-up version of Spider-Man: No Way Home. While it’s nothing new in the industry when it comes to major anniversary milestones for iconic features,

Comscore statistics show that 90% of these shows are scheduled through Fathom Events, not the studio itself. . Fathom is a joint venture of AMC, Regal and Cinemark bringing back legacy titles for limited engagement.

Disney and Sony’s re-release timing comes as container ticket revenues are down 30% compared to 2019, with 30% fewer movies showing in theaters. There are some great movie releases in the coming weeks ahead of Universal and Blumhouse’s Halloween ending on October 14th and Warner Bros. Black Adam on October 21st.
